Better than expected

GDP grew by 3.7% in 2006 after a revision of the original data which put growth at 2.9% in 2006, according to the official statistics agency, Ibge. President Lula da Silva said he was "not happy" with 2.9% stat, but was confident that growth in 2007 would be substantially better, once the government's Programa de Aceleração do Crescimento (PAC) was approved by congress.
